Sobre la app
Greenlight is a comprehensive financial app and prepaid debit card designed for families to teach children and teens (ages 6–18) how to manage money responsibly through earning, saving, spending, and investing, all with flexible parental oversight. The Greenlight app and card system allows parents to give their kids real-world financial experience while maintaining peace of mind and control. Parents can manage up to five children on one family account, each receiving their own personalized Greenlight debit card. The core function of Greenlight is to facilitate financial education through practical, hands-on experience. Parents instantly send money from their Parent's Wallet to their children's accounts. A key feature is the **flexible parental controls** that put parents in the driver's seat. Parents receive real-time notifications for every transaction, giving them full visibility into their child's spending habits. They can set **spending limits** by category (e.g., groceries, gaming stores) or merchant, and even for ATM withdrawals, or choose to approve every transaction before it is executed. For complete control, the card can be turned on or off instantly from the parent app if it is lost or stolen, or if a spending issue arises. Greenlight significantly simplifies **allowance and chore management**. Parents can assign one-time or recurring chores within the app, set deadlines and frequencies, and automate weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly allowance payments, with the option to tie those payments to the completion of assigned chores. This commission-based system helps kids learn the value of effort and responsibility. The app places a strong emphasis on **saving and goal-setting**. Kids can create and track specific savings goals (e.g., a new bike, a video game) and visually watch their savings grow. To encourage healthy savings habits, Greenlight offers a high-yield **Savings Reward**, which can reach up to 6% per annum reward on savings balances, depending on the subscription plan. Parents can also choose to pay **Parent-Paid Interest** (up to 100%) on their child's savings balance, helping kids learn the power of compounding interest at an accelerated pace. For older children and teens, Greenlight includes robust **investing tools** with parental approval. Children and teens can research, monitor, and request to buy real stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) from a selection of over 4,000 options. Parents must review and approve every trade request before it is executed, ensuring supervision and facilitating conversations about smart investing. The investing feature also includes the **Greenlight Level UpTM** financial literacy game, which uses gamification with videos and quizzes to teach budgeting, saving, and investing concepts that exceed national financial education standards. Beyond financial tools, Greenlight's higher-tier plans (**Max, Infinity, and Family Shield**) incorporate advanced **family safety features**. These include **family location sharing** to know where family members are, **SOS alerts** to notify emergency contacts and 911 with one swipe, and **driving safety features** like crash detection, which automatically dispatches 911 if a major collision is detected, and driving reports for insight into a teen's driving habits. These plans also include financial protection features such as identity theft protection (via Experian), cell phone protection, and purchase protection. The highest tier, Family Shield, extends financial protection to senior loved ones against fraud and scams. Greenlight operates on a tiered subscription model (Core, Max, Infinity, Family Shield), but the Core plan provides the debit card and essential money management features for a monthly fee. All Greenlight accounts are **FDIC-insured** up to $250,000 through its partner bank, Community Federal Savings Bank, and adhere to strict security protocols like 256-bit encryption and Mastercard's Zero Liability Protection. The app is available globally in the USA and compatible on both iOS and Android platforms, with the debit card accepted anywhere Mastercard is. The app's ability to automate payments, enforce spending boundaries, and provide a safe investment introduction makes it a powerful educational tool for raising financially literate adults. Greenlight should be reviewed in real family use before recommendation. Test first-session onboarding, age fit (6–18), data collection prompts, and monetization flows. Verify whether core tasks remain usable with limited connectivity, whether navigation is predictable for children, and whether adult controls are easy to find. Keep short supervised sessions and document where children need support. Re-check links and policy pages regularly because store listings and business models can change over time.
